Northwest Fire/Rescue District Joins Tucson Fire Department Mobile Data System
IRVINE, CALIFORNIA,
December 2, 2005, -- The Northwest Fire/Rescue District
will join the City of Tucson, Arizona wireless mobile
data communication system. The City of Tucson has
purchased an upgradeable IP Series 32 private wireless
data system from IPMobileNet, Inc., for the Tucson Fire
Department. The system consists of three base stations,
130 mobile units and 4.9 GHz mobile routers to be
installed in vehicles in the 800 MHz public safety band.
It features a native IP computing/communication
platform, and over-the-air data rates of 32 Kbps and 64
Kbps.
The Northwest Fire/Rescue District has purchased two
additional base stations for additional radio coverage
in their region, and 50 radio modems for district fire
vehicles. Northwest Fire/Rescue will utilize the
IPNetwork Controller and other infrastructure that will
be provided by the City of Tucson system.
Northwest Fire/Rescue District was formed in 1983 by
residents of the northwest metropolitan Tucson area. The
district currently provides emergency and community
services to 114,000 residents and 1900 commercial
occupancies over a 140 square mile area.
The system will allow mobile data computers in each fire
department vehicle to receive dispatches and other
messages from the 911 center, send vehicle-to-vehicle
messages, provide automatic vehicle location services,
and automatically upload and download mission critical
information as they respond to emergencies. The system’s
native IP platform allows data to transfer seamlessly,
without user intervention, between wired networks (LAN)
and wireless networks.
