IPMobileNet Awarded Tucson Fire
Department Mobile Data System Contract
IRVINE, CALIFORNIA, October 25, 2005, -- The City of
Tucson, Arizona has awarded IPMobileNet a contract for a
turnkey citywide wireless mobile data communication
system. The city is procuring a private wireless data
system for the Tucson Fire Department, which has
approximately 130 vehicles. The system will allow mobile
data computers in each fire department vehicle to
receive dispatches and other messages from the 911
center, send vehicle-to-vehicle messages, provide
automatic vehicle location services, and automatically
upload and download mission critical information as they
respond to emergencies. The system’s native IP platform
allows data to transfer seamlessly, without user
intervention, between wired networks (LAN) and wireless
networks. The contract includes IPMobileNet mobile data
radio/modems, base stations and tower equipment, 4.9 GHz
and Wi-Fi mobile routers and access points, mobile data
computers, automatic vehicle location software,
installation and integration.
The system consists of three base stations and mobile
units in the 800 MHz public safety band, with an option
of migrating to the 700 MHz band when frequencies are
available. The IPMobileNet IP Series radios and base
stations have a data rate of 32 Kbps over-the-air, and
the city has purchased an upgrade to allow for 64 Kbps
operation. Each vehicle will also be equipped with a 4.9
GHz and 802.11 b/g mobile router to communicate with 4.9
GHz access points to be installed at each of the fire
stations throughout the city of Tucson.
“IPMobileNet is the standard for wide area mobile data
computing in the states of Wisconsin, Utah and
Kentucky,” said Keith Cowan, IPMobileNet President and
Chief Executive Officer. “This represents one of the
first large scale 4.9 GHz broadband systems installed in
the US, and IPMobileNet is proud to be a key player in
this important developing market. Our demonstrated
ability to integrate large systems helped us win this
contract, and we look forward to working with the city
of Tucson to deploy this state-of-the-art mobile data
system. “
“Our cost-effectiveness and easy to use IP-based
computing platform makes IPMobileNet an attractive
option for police, fire, and sheriffs,” said Brian
Purcell, Vice President of Sales for IPMobileNet. “Our
goal is to be the mobile data computing standard for all
first responders.”
