Uprizer Names Dave Scantling CEO

Los Angeles, CA, August 2001 – Peer-to-Peer distributed networking company Uprizer, Inc. named Dave Scantling as President and CEO. Scantling enhances the original founding team of Ian Clarke, CTO and creator of Freenet, and Rob Kramer, Uprizer Chairman and Chief Strategic Officer.

Before joining Uprizer, Scantling was General Manager, E-Services, at HP where he was responsible for a $2.3B value chain for Service Providers and Mobile Operators. After developing the HP strategy, and organizing all resources for this new business area, David delivered results at 170% of plan, including landmark HP deals with Qwest and Genuity.

Prior to HP, Dave founded and served as CEO of Econex, an Internet Services company that provided an integrated e-commerce platform to small businesses. He also gained valuable experience as a manager in IBM’s e-business division, where he led teams that built e-commerce solutions for Goodyear and the RPS division of FedEx.

Frank Kline, Kline Hawkes & Co.’s Managing Partner and Uprizer board member noted, “We are very excited to have Dave Scantling on board. He brings a clear vision and strategy and a broad range of business experience from his 15 years in the computing industry. Uprizer is a paradigm-changing company that now has all the pieces in place to be the leading provider of content distribution products across both wireline and wireless networks.”

In April 2001 Kline Hawkes led a $4 million investment in Uprizer. Other investors in the round included Intel Capital and Shugart Venture Fund, among others.
