AboveNet Communications, Inc.
AboveNet is a leading provider of Internet system and network management solutions for enterprises with mission-critical and/or high bandwidth Internet operations. Kline Hawkes made its investment in July 1998. The Company raised $65 million in an IPO in December (NASDAQ: ABOV). Frank Kline represents Kline Hawkes on the AboveNet Board of Directors.
Certus Corporation
Certus Corporation was founded in September 1998 through a roll-up transaction that created a national healthcare service operating platform. Certus is headquartered in Long Beach and employs 260 people in 22 offices nationwide. Kline Hawkes committed to invest $3.75 million along with Triumph Capital who committed $26.25 million. CIBC provided a $65 million senior credit facility. In July 1997, Kline Hawkes provided the initial capital for the Company to define the targets to execute its roll-up strategy.
CTC
Commercial Technologies Corporation, which is headquartered in Culver City, CA, develops, manufactures and sells advanced fiber- optic telecommunications equipment. The Company's initial product, CodeStreamTM, is based on Optical Code Division Multiple Access, "O-CDMA". CodeStreamTM is intended to provide significant increases in fiber optic network capacity, simplify network management and reduce network costs. In March, 1998 Kline Hawkes invested $3 million in the Company's Series B round. Jay Ferguson represents Kline Hawkes on the Board of Directors.
GoTo.com
GoTo.com is an Internet search engine "made simple." The Company employs a unique search system based on a free market approach, enabling advertisers to bid for their place in the search result queue. GoTo.com is a company incubated out of idealab! located in Pasadena. Kline Hawkes invested $3 million in November 1998. Jay Ferguson represents Kline Hawkes as an observer to the Board of Directors.
