Overture (NASDAQ: OVER) is the Pasadena based search engine that pioneered the free market, "pay for performance" model where Web sites bid for priority placement in keyword search results. Overture launched its Internet search site in June 1998. It has rapidly become one of the fastest growing sites on the Web, to date, harvesting more than 10,000 advertisers, 80,000 network affiliate locations and 10 million unique users. The Company went public in June and was priced above the expected range at its debut raising $103.5 million in the IPO. In July, Overture announced an agreement with Netscape Communications (NYSE: AOL) to become a leading search provider for Netscape's popular Netscape Net Search program. Overture will be available to Netscape visitors on the Net Search page, one of the most heavily trafficked pages on the Internet.
